Inspired by traditional Chinese scholar chairs, this contemporary version by SCENE SHANG changes the traditional sitting posture, from a stiff, if not serious one, to one with a relaxing lean-back, while still appearing refined.
Handmade by artisans from sustainable rattan, this piece marries the art of tradition with contemporary and improved methods. Each armrest is made by skillfully joining selected rattan core and then moulded to form a flat smooth surface on one side. The same method of joining and moulding is also applied to the backrest and yoke, lending a contemporary take to a traditional aesthetic. Tapered legs are capped with specially shaped brass feet for a touch of luxe.
Finished in a natural, rustic clear coat on the rattan and paired with a seat pad made from quality bonded leather for comfort.
