ABOUT

A Moon Flask is also known as a bao yue ping (抱月瓶), which translates to “embracing the moon”.

HISTORY

During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), new porcelain forms were inspired by metalworks made in Persia and Central Asia, brought along by the trade along the Silk Road.

The Moon Flask is said to be inspired by the brass vessels used to store water for travellers, and reproduced in porcelain to adapt to Chinese tastes for decorative purposes.

This numbered replica of a Qing Dynasty style Moon Flask is made in Jingdezhen out of fine porcelain and features a traditional blue and white intertwined lotus pattern, formed by wavy, arc lines with flowers and leaves. Viewed as an auspicious pattern, this traditional  decoration can also be found on brocade, embroidery, lacquer and jewellery designs.

Comes with a set of complimentary scenting stalks to drip your diffuser oils on.

Actual measurements may vary ± 2 cm. Due to the use of natural materials, variations in pattern and colour will differ. All photos shown are for illustration purposes only. For more information, please read our terms and conditions.
